Reggae musician Luciano, aka Jepther McClymont of Kingston, Jamaica, was questioned by police after his houseguest opened fire on police and shot three officers before being killed in a gun battle. Police have detained Luciano and are considering charging him with harboring a fugitive.
Andrew Senior, a suspect in several killings and considered one of Jamaica’s most-wanted, was holed up inside the singer’s home prior to the altercation. One officers is in critical condition and two others are stable after the Wednesday shooting.
The gunman launched the attack just after 5:00 a.m. and it lasted for two hours. According to Assistant Police Commissioner Leon Rose, Andrew ‘Conqueror’ Senior had alluded police for years. Police got a tip that he was hiding out in the quiet residential community of Westminster Crescent, at the home and studio of Luciano.
The reggae star is best known for Lord Give Me Strength and It’s Me Again, Jah. His 2001 album A New Day received a Grammy nomination for best reggae album.
