Jenny McCarthy has been in the forefront for the past year in a campaign to educate parents to think twice before vaccinating their young children. Her book Louder Than Words: A Mothers Journey in Healing Autism tells of her young son Evan’s journey since being diagnosed. She describes the child as having developed normally until receiving his shots for measles, mumps and rubella at age 15 months.
McCarthy’s campaign against vaccinating children is in sharp contrast to actress Amanda Peet‘s efforts. As spokeswoman for Every Child By Two, Peet made the statement that any parent who doesn’t have their child vaccinated is a “parasite”. That eight letter word rankled Jenny.
McCarthy sat for an interview recently with Spectrum magazine. When asked to comment on Peete’s pronouncement, Jenny offered:
“She has a lot of nerve to come forward and be on that side, because there is an angry mob on my side, and I like the fact that I can say she’s completely wrong.”
McCarthy says her marriage to actor and director John Asher could not withstand Evan’s life changing diagnosis. They divorced in 2005. Jenny has been in a three year relationship with Jim Carrey, who has lent his name and support to her crusade.
