Vanity Fair is working on an expose claiming Gwyneth Paltrow may have been romantically involved with billionaire Jeff Soffer in 2008 during the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Resort grand opening gala. Her rep issued a denial.

Paltrow’s spokesman told Daily Mail, “It’s completely false. Jeff is a longtime friend of Gwyneth’s and there was no romantic relationship with him at all. He flew many of his friends to Miami that weekend, not just Gwyneth.”

The actress was tipped off in early September that a VF contributing editor had been asking pointed questions among those who attended the party five years ago. When the magazine reached out to the actress for comments, it became clear to her that the proposed article was intended as an unflattering piece.

The gist of the proposed story is that Paltrow and her billionaire pal were closed off alone in a private section of the hotel before he gave her a tour of the facility during the 2008 gala. At the end of the event he whisked her away in his Bentley, and the next day she and Kate Hudson joined him on his yacht.

This prompted Gwyneth to send an e-mail to her Hollywood friends, “Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine. If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter stated emphatically, “She sort of forced my hand. We have a very good writer and it’ll run.”

Besides her big screen career, the 41-year-old owns the lifestyle company Goop.com and has written several cookbooks. She wed Coldplay rocker Chris Martin in 2003. Their children are Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.

Billionaire Soffer wed supermodel Elle MacPherson in July 2013 following an on-again off-again two-year relationship.
