Dauntless like a BOSS! Divergent took top spot at the box office this weekend, bringing in $56 million. Not bad for an opening!
Also premiering was Muppet’s Most Wanted and God is Not Dead, which brought in 16.5 and 8.6 million, respectively. Not. Even. Close.
Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James as rebels in a dystopian future, is most often compared to The Hunger Games, which earned an astounding 152 million on it’s opening weekend in 2012.
The Divergent sequel, Insurgent, is scheduled for release on March 20, 2015 and the third and final installment drops March 18th 2016.
The film has been met with lukewarm reviews from critics, but I saw it over the weekend and LOVED it. And can we talk about FOUR?? Move over Gale and Peeta!!
I’ll admit that some of the emotion from The Hunger Games was lacking, but I loved the action and Tris character so much. I’m excited to see how the next two play out.
