We’ve just discovered that Joaquin Phoenix has some strong competition in the category of ‘most bizarre interview‘. Actor and musician Billy Bob Thonton and his band The Boxmasters sat down with Jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio for an interview, leaving the host and his listening audience puzzled.
The band, currently on tour with Willie Nelson, did the radio gig on Wednesday to promote their latest album Modbilly, a two CD set of originals and 60’s covers.
Things went awry almost immediate when the show host asked Thornton how long ago the band had formed. Billy Bob replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” It went downhill from there.
It turns out Thornton was miffed that Ghomeshi had referred to him as an Academy Award winning actor in his intro. The temperamental artist had apparently warned Jian that it was to be all about music.
