Country legend Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus‘ godmother and the veteran entertainer has an interesting take on the recent controversial behavior of her godchild.
Parton told the London Evening Standard that she does not provide unsolicited advice to the former Disney star but chooses instead to be an observer.
“I’ve loved her through the years and watched her grow up, and I’ve seen how smart she is and how talented she is. I don’t think people really realize yet what a great singer and writer she really is. She’s just trying to find her own place and wings so she can learn to fly.”
Dolly isn’t Miley’s only supporter in the industry–Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Kanye West are a few believers. Celebs who are still hanging back include Cher, Sinead O’Connor, Elton John and Pink.
Parton hopes to record a duet with her goddaughter, “I would love to sing with her and write with her because I think she is so gifted. It’s not easy being young. It’s hard to know what to do. You’ve almost got to sacrifice your damn soul just to get anything done.”
