Melissa McCarthy was honored last night at ELLE’s 20th Annual Women in Hollywood event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The comedic actress hit the red carpet rocking a custom Calvin Klein three-piece ensemble from the pre-fall 2013 collection featuring a black top and pants topped with a short white jacket.

She was introduced by Kathy Bates, who cited McCarthy as an inspiration. Bates later tweeted, “Melissa McCarthy honored at Elle Women in Hollywood 2013: I want girls to know they don’t have to be perfect to be remarkable.”

The ‘Mike & Molly’ actress was asked about the haters who faulted ELLE for covering the popular actress up in a charcoal Marina Rinaldi coat for their November magazine cover. Melissa responded emphatically, “I think they are crazy.”

She explained, “I had a great dress on. I’m the one who grabbed the coat! I loved my cover, I feel in love with that coat.”

ELLE defended the cover, “On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover. We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year.”

Among the other 2013 honorees: Shailene Woodley, Penelope Cruz and Reese Witherspoon – see their cover art below:
