Popular solo artist and two-time Grammy winner Eydie Gorme died at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 10, following an undisclosed illness.  She was 84.

Her husband, singer and actor Steve Lawrence, issued a statement: "Eydie has been my partner on stage and in life for more than 55 years.  I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing.  While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time."

Gorme met her future husband while she was performing her hit song 'Blame it on the Bossa Nova' on the Steve Allen Show in 1953 in New York.

They married in 1957 and landed their own TV program, 'The Steven Lawrence and Eydie Gorme Show.'

The couple last appeared on the red carpet in 2005 when they attended an event honoring Dick Van Dyke.
