Former President George W. Bush, 67, is recovering at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after having a stent placed in his heart early Tuesday morning to open a blockage.

A family spokesman released this statement, "President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday."

"He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him.  He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes.  And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups."

The blockage showed up during Bush's annual physical exam at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.

He last official public appearance was in May for the opening of his library and museum that will serve as a permanent exhibit containing artifacts from the Bush administration.

According to #43, he found an extremely fulfilling hobby after leaving the White House.  He told Diane Sawyer several months ago, "I love to paint.  It has changed my life in an unbelievably positive way."

His aging father, former President George H. W. Bush, made news several weeks ago when the 89-year-old shaved his head as a show of support for a young leukemia patient - photos here.
