Conspiracy theories abound in the days following the death of 43-year-old conservative blogger and author Andrew Breitbart, that he was assassinated.

During the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) earlier this month, Breitbart revealed that he had damning tapes of Obama at Harvard which he intended to release. (See video below)

The conspiracy theorists have used the fact that Breibart died on March 1, “the very date he was supposed to release the tapes,” as evidence that he was murdered.

There are a few holes in that theory. First of all, Breitbart never gave a date for the release of the tapes. Thursday evening, documentary filmmaker Steve Bannon told FOX New’s Sean Hannity that Breitbart’s company was planning to release them within seven to ten days.

Second of all, he had a heart condition and led a fast-paced, stress-induced life — which, by the way, he loved. He collapsed on the street and died.

And lastly, the tapes will still be released. So what would the “assassins” gain by murdering Breitbart?

Perhaps all the conspiracy theorists should take a cue from one of Breitbart’s most famous targets, former Department of Agriculture staffer Shirley Sherrod, who issued a statement, saying, “My prayers go out to Mr. Breitbart’s family as they cope during this very difficult time. I do not intend to make any further comments.”

And neither do we.

R.I.P. Andrew Breitbart.
