The big wigs over at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown are saying that even after Mark McGwire’s recent confession to steroid use, his bat is safe.

The HOF senior director spoke with TMZ and said that they have placed a disclaimer on the display that states that over the course of time, evidence pointed to the use of performance enhancing drugs by McGwire. They will keep the bat that he used for his 70th home run.

The disclaimer is intended as a “buyers beware” alert that the bat is being displayed “without respect to suspicion” of illegal substance use. Visitors can decide the significance of the artifact based upon their own ethical standards.

McGwire’s written confession stated, “I wish I had never touched steroids…it was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”
