It was truly a Christmas miracle for 37-year-old expectant mother Tracy Hermansdorfer, who went into cardiac arrest during labor on Christmas Eve at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Doctors, unable to revive her with chest compressions and a breathing tube, rushed her to an operating room and performed an emergency cesarean section in an attempt to save the lifeless unborn baby.
Dr. Stephanie Martin, a maternal fetal medicine specialist who responded to the Code Blue situation, reported that Tracy had no heartbeat for about four minutes. “She had no signs of life. No heartbeat, no blood pressure, she wasn’t breathing. The baby was, it was basically limp when delivered.”
Tracy’s husband Mike Hermanstorfer recalled, “I was holding her hand when we realized she was gone. My entire life just rolled out.” He went on to say that doctors told him, “We’re going to take your son out now. We have been unable to revive her and we’re going to take your son out.”
The miraculous news is that immediately after the child was delivered, both mother and child began to breathe. The hospital staff who witnessed the death and revival of the mom and baby were delightfully baffled and look upon the situation as a divine intervention.
The couple have named their miracle son Coltyn Mikel Hermansdorfer. Mother and child are doing well and went home on Monday, still unable to fathom the miraculous mystery that unfolded on Christmas Eve.
Val Thomas is another woman with a miracle story.
