The Rorschach inkblot test was developed by Swiss Psychologist Hermann Rorschach in 1921. The test is a widely administered method of evaluating personality characteristics and emotional function, while delving into the possibility of underlying thought disorder and psychotic thinking.
Subjects are asked to describe what they see in a series of inkblot pictures. Psychologists take into consideration up to 100 variables, including hand gestures and body movements of the patient during the process.
The test was widely criticized in the 1950’s and enjoyed a resurgence in the 1970’s. The internet encyclopedia Wikipedia came under fire from psychologists around the globe after publishing the set of 10 inkblots. They initially had just one photo and the rest were supplied by an emergency room physician.
There are no right or wrong answers to the test. View the inkblots along with the most frequent responses by patients below in photos and video.
