Swedish athlete and LPGA rookie Anna Nordqvist shot a 4-under par 68 on Sunday to wrap up the LPGA Championship. She finished at 15-under 273, beating second place finisher Lindsey Wright by a comfortable four shots.
The Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland was the venue and the rookie cinched her first tour victory just four days after turning 22. This was Nordqvist’s fifth tournament and her first major. She earned $300,000 prize money–a huge payday for the rookie.
Nordqvist is following in the footsteps of fellow countrywoman Annika Sorenstam, who won her first tour victory at the U.S. Open in 1995.
The six-footer was born in Eskilstuna, Sweden and first golfed at age thirteen. She was educated at Arizona State University 2006-2008 and now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. She turned pro in December 2008.
