The results are in on American Idol for Motown Week and going home is 27 year old oil rigger Michael Sarver from Jasper, Texas. He was given an opportunity to persuade the judges with a second rendition of Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, but he failed to win a reprieve. See clip here.
He was the only contestant who didn’t make the trip to Detroit to be mentored by Smokey Robinson. He stayed behind because of illness and was able to spend some time with the music legend in L.A. before Wednesday’s show.
There was a quick pow wow between the four judges, who seemed to be considering a stay of execution but Simon Cowell finally took the bull by the horns and told Sarver that his performance was “not good enough….you’re going home tonight.”
Ryan Seacrest reminded viewers that Sarver had earned the right to join the American Idol Top 10 this summer for their music tour – see photo below.
Also in the bottom two was Matt Giraud, who sang Let’s Get It On. The two stellar performances this week were Adam Lambert‘s Tracks Of My Tears link here and Allison Iraheta‘s Papa Was A Rolling Stone link here.
