Miss Connecticut Outstanding Teen, 17 year old Rachael Ramonas threw a drinking party on Saturday night that resulted in more than two dozen teens being charged with underage drinking.
An anonymous tip alerted Wolcott police Capt. Domenic Angiolillo, who responded with other officers to the Ramonas home, some 30 southwest of Hartford. Angiolillo indicated that they found beer and rum and items commonly used for the drinking game called beer pong, which involves tossing a ping pong ball into cups of beer.
The young woman, who is a senior at Wolcott High School, invited her friends over to party while her parents were out of town. She told police that her friends invited more friends and before she knew it, things got out of control. Rachael’s parents returned home on Sunday.
The names of those receiving drinking tickets have not been released because they are juveniles. A total of 24 tickets were issued, each carrying a fine of $136 and an automatic 30 day suspension of driving privileges. Most of the teens have decided to plead not guilty and have opted instead to appear in Waterbury Superior Court. According to Angiolillo, more than a dozen other kids fled the scene without being apprehended.
Ramonas is an honor student who wants to be a dentist, according to her bio on the Miss America Outstanding Teen website. She was crowned in June 2008, winning a $2,000 scholarship, and represented her state in the national pageant in August 2008. State and national pageant officials have not yet made a determination on her future status. Her reign ends in June.
