For reasons that none of us are privy to, Britney Spears could not find it within herself to attend the court hearing that might have restored her visitation rights with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The court hearing, attended by ex-husband Kevin Federline and his legal team as well as Spears lawyers, went on without her. She apparently phoned in excuses as the morning progressed, indicating she was waiting for the delivery of a piece of furniture. When she finally arrived at the Los Angeles Superior Court hearing, she got out of the car, indicated she was scared and promptly got back into the vehicle and was driven away from the mob scene of paparazzi.

According to Federline’s attorney Mark Kaplan, this was the most important in the long string of previous hearings. Court Commissioner Scott Gordon presided over the private hearing that lasted more than four hours. The previous ruling, which removed Spears’ visitation privileges, will stand until such time as she is able to personally communicate with the court.

Undoubtedly, part of her fear is that they will involuntarily commit her for psychiatric treatment. There has been speculation that her family had been in conversations with medical professionals about that possibility. That was thought to be Spears reason for fleeing to Mexico after being released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last week.

Daily Mail reported that Britney and her entourage then headed for Hollywood’s Little Brown Church. She and boyfriend and close confidant, Adnan Ghalib went inside and she left a personal note in the prayer box. Her paparazzi companion appears to be her only ally at the moment.

We’ve got photos of Britney and Adnan during the entire episode.
