We have some really super exciting news today folks. The build-up to the news is pretty, good, though — so we’ll start with that.

First off, Vanity Fair snagged two journos, Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele, who were recently dismissed from Time Inc. due to their overly-bloated salaries. Graydon Carter also announced that he will be making some serious changes to Vanity Fair come 2008.

Despite facing drops in advertising pages, Carter maintains that VF will continue to grow, strengthen, blah, blah, blah, and the dynamic duo reporting team of Steele and Bartlett will help make that dream a reality.

Ok, great — but that’s not the really big news. The really big news comes from hardest working media reporter at the New York Times, Katharine Q. Seelye‘s, closing remarks.

Here are a couple of questions for the magazine????????s new sleuths: Why did those advertisers leave? And will more investigative reporting bring them back?

We’ve been waiting six months plus for her to give us something quirky or offbeat … or just anything besides excellent reporting. And today, we have it: a joke! A punchline! We have to wonder: has she been hanging around with David Carr?
