‘LAT’ disappoints with Graydon Carter bio, no scandal

» More Media

When we heard the Los Angeles Times was “going after” Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, we expected it was going to be scandalous, full of damaging evidence and maybe even a little libel for shits and giggles. What we did not forsee, however, was a biography.

But that’s what the West Coast daily has delivered with “From Irreverent Chronicler to Hollywood’s Good Friend,” drawn up by Josh Getlin, Michael Cieply and Claudia Eller .. oh, and “Times staff writers” – which is how we refer to interns and wire services too.

And isn’t the chronological story structure passe by now?

We did enjoy a few tidbits, like the acknowledgement of Carter’s “‘blue notes’ ??? handwritten praise on powder blue stationery,” that the magazine’s writers strive for, and that nightclub queen Amy Sacco – who has appeared in the book befoe and will be featured this summer – is in talks with Carter to shop around a Sex and the City-esque series.
