You’ve very likely heard about it by now, but it’s worth reiterating:

BRITNEY SPEARS IS FREE.

At long last.

This past Friday afternoon, a Los Angeles judge ruled that Britney will no longer be ruled by any sort of conservatorship, eliminating the set-up that had been established 13 years ago.

"The court finds and determines that the conservatorship of the person and the estate is no longer required," declared Los Angeles County judge Brenda Penny, approving Jamie Spears’ petition to end the conservatorship of his famous daughter.

The ruling came about four months after the artist went public about the hardships she’s endured as a result of her dad’s alleged exploitation and control.

"Therefore, effective today, the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated," concluded Penny.

Back in June, Britney spoke out in more detail than ever before about this legal arrangement, labeling it a form of "abuse" and saying in a virtual court hearing:

I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane. And I’m depressed.

Fast forward all this time… and Spears had something very different to say about the end of her conservatorship.

"Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy!!!" she wrote.

"I think Im gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen ????"

As you can see below, Spears added the hashtag that has since become quite the global movement: #FreeBritney.

The artist later followed this message up with another post that read: "I can’t freaking believe it !!!! Again … best day ever !!!!"

Among the first to react to the major news was the superstar’s fiance, Sam Asghari.

"History was made today," he posted on Instagram. "Britney is Free!"

Britney had been under a conservatorship since 2008, as her father, Jamie Spears, controlled of both her personal and professional life decisions.

In June, amid the ongoing battle to oust her dad, Spears delivered a blistering and heartbreaking 20-minute statement in court, stating that Jamie belonged in jail for the way he treated her over the past decade-plus.

“I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years, and it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money,” she said during ths testimony.

“And it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end without being tested.”
