Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are mourning the loss of their third baby, one month after announcing they were expecting.
The famous couple - who are parents to daughter Luna Simone, 4, and son Miles Theodore, 2 - shared the awful news on Wednesday.
They revealed that the 34-year-old model's bleeding couldn't be stopped, "despite bags and bags of blood transfusions."
It's a kind of devastation without comparison, really.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote on Instagram.
“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
Along with sharing the personal and heart-breaking photos above and below, Teigen detaiiled what transpired this week on her social media accounts.
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital.
"But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,” she continued.
“So he will always be Jack to us."
"Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
Teigen then addressed her late son directly:
To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive.
We will always love you.
Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers.
We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you.
In conclusion, wrote the author and mother:
We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience.
But everyday can’t be full of sunshine.
On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.
Legend, a Grammy Award-winning artist, also posted Teigen's statement on his own Twitter account and wrote: "We love you, Jack."
Later in the evening, meanwhile, Teigen gave fans an update on the family’s heartbreak via Twitter
“Driving home from the hospital with no baby,” she wrote, a few days after telling followers she had been hospitalized for excessive bleeding.
“How can this be real.”
In the wake of this tragedy, Teigen and Legend received an outpouring of support from stars in all industries.
Sunny Hostin, who has also lost a baby to miscarriage, shared her condolences while also praising Teigen for being so open about her experience:
"You are helping so many women by talking about what we suffer in silence."
Kyle Richards told the couple she "will say a special prayer for Jack tonight," referring to him their "guardian angel."
"I'm so sorry," added Hailey Bieber, who wrote: "Thinking of you and John, praying for you guys and sending you so much love during this time."
Paris Hilton also sent "so much love," writing:
"My heart breaks for you and John. I am so sorry for your loss."
The couple's longtime friend Kim Kardashian shared her condolences as well, commenting:
"We're always here for you and love you guys so much."
The stars, who goot married in 2013, revealed in August that they were expecting baby number-three.
Teigen later accidentally revealed that they were having a boy during an Instagram video earlier this month.
We'll be keeping them in our thoughts.
