When Here Comes Honey Boo Boo first debuted on TLC back in ... the series offered a lightearted look at the lives of a trailer full ofcolorful characters living a hardscrabble existence in rural ...
(Of course, given their forndness for Mountain Dew, Little Debbies, and Crisco, we knew the Thompsons hearts wouldn't be light for long.)
Anyway, while most reality series focus on drama, Honey Boo Boo took more of a Jersey Shore-esque, unscripted sitcom approach.
Sadly, thanks to a wholoe lot of neglect, bad boyfriends, and hardcore substance abuse, in recent years, the family's situation has gone from Beverly Hillbillies to Deliverance.
Now, when we check in on the Thompsons, we see stark reality of rural poverty with no comic relief to soften the blow,
And no one more fully embodies this sad turn of events than Geno Doak.
Doak is dating Mama June Shannon, and he seems to be hellbent on destroying her life.
Shannon and Doak were both arrested for drug possession in March, and since then, it's been all downhill.
June has sold off most of her possessions, seemingly at Geno's behest, and now the two of them are living a barebones existence in a trailer.
June's kids have apparently cut ties with her, and with good reason.
Last we saw her, Honey Boo Boo was pretending to sniff cocaine during an Instagram live feed -- a behavior she presumably learned from Doak.
Speaking of, Instagram, Doak made his return to the platform this week after going radio silent on social media for several months.
And hoo, boy, did he make up for lost time.
Doak appeared on camera to announce that he was participating in No Shave November in hope of raising money for cancer research -- and he did all of this while smoking a cigarette.
“Hey y’all, it’s me,” he began.
“Sorry I ain’t been here in a while. Hope y’all still ‘member me.”
From there he announced his -- confused intention
“I’m representin’ No Shave November!” Geno went on to say. “I ain’t got a lot of facial hair and s--t,” he said. “I can’t grow a whole lot.”
“Let’s all fight cancer,” he added. “Donate to whatever charity y’all feel comfortable with and let’s fight cancer. I love y’all.”
Needless to say, the response from fans was less than favorable,
"Where’s momma June?! Please don’t tell me she’s all jacked up on drugs- for her kids sake," wrote one commenter.
"Call me stupid but doesn't smoking cause cancer?" stated another.
"Sad, praying for you," a third echoed.
Not surprisingly, this triggered a nonsensical response from Geno:
"You slow therapy needing people please realize this is about cancer and not about me or your opinion you seriously need help going to come to my page and talk shit about me screw off dude,” Doak wrote.
Sigh. You almost have to admire the ignorance. Almost.
