The tragic incident actually took place on the former reality star’s 28th birthday, with Kenneth’s father, Malcolm, confirming the awful development to Global News.

“He packed a ton of living into 28 years. There was no grass growing under his feet.,” Malcolm said of his son and the way he approached the world.

“He embraced life, he was brave and he was a pretty cool guy.”

Details are still coming in, but McAlpine was reported missing on Monday night after he failed to return from a hike on Mount Gimli, a popular destination in the province’s Southern Interior.

A number of rescue teams from the area were dispatched to find McAlpine.

However, the search ended in tragedy the next morning when McAlpine was found far below the path where authorities think he had been hiking near Gimli’s upper peak.

McAlpine competed on the fifth season of The Amazing Race Canada, coming in second with his partner and friend, Ryan Lachapelle.

On its Facebook page, The Amazing Race Canada posted a heartwarming message about McAlpine’s impact on the show and its viewers.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of Season 5 racer Kenneth McAlpine," the message reads, continuing as follows:

"Part of TEAM GIVE’R, Kenneth’s infectious personality left a lasting impression not only on us, but with viewers across the country. His family and friends are in our thoughts and hearts during this difficult time.”

McAlpine was an avid mountain climber who worked as a cook at Gabriella’s Restaurant in Rossland.

The head chef of his restaurant told Global News that Kenneth "was one of the most awesome people that we have had the opportunity to work with and know."

He and Ryan named their team GIVE’R because this was a personal motto, which they considered to be a call to seize the day, a term they used to inspire others after finishing as the runner-up team on Season 5.

"He was an exceptional man. And I’m proud that he was our son," Malcolm added.

As you can see above, fans have reacted in stunned silence to McAlpine’s death.

Authorities are continuing to investigate his passing, along with the BC Coroners Service, but foul play is not suspected.

May the former reality star rest in peace.
