Sad news out of the music world today, as multiple sources have now confirmed the death of Prodigy frontman Keith Flint.
Flint was just 49 years old.
There's no official word yet on the cause of the singer's death, but at least one insider has claimed that Flint took his own life.
"The news is true, I can't believe I'm saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend," bandmate Liam Howlett wrote on the group's official Instagram page.
"I'm shell shocked, f--kin angry , confused and heart broken," he added.
The death was later confirmed with an official statement on the band's Twitter account:
"It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed," the group wrote.
"We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time."
As the lead singer and co-founder of Prodigy, Flint became a legendary figure in the 1990s, first as one of the pioneering figures in the UK's "big beat" electronic music scene, and later as an international icon.
Prodigy became one of the few UK electronic acts to hit it big in America with hits like "Firestarter," "Breathe," and "Smack My B-tch Up."
The group achieved an incredible six number one hits in the UK and one in the US.
With his signature double mohawk and unmistakable vocal delivery, Flint quickly became one of the recognizable faces in the world of electronic music.
Following an unhappy early childhood in Essex, England, the mischievous Flint was kicked out of school at the age of 15.
He found work as a roofer and befriended future bandmate Howlett at a rave in 1989.
Flint was so impressed by Howett's DJ skills that he encouraged him to pursue music professionally and even offered up his services as a dancer.
In the Nineties, the duo began collaborating, and the rest -- as they say -- is history.
Flint became a worldwide trending topic shortly after news of his passing went public.
Family, friends, and a legion of devoted fans have paid tribute to the man with the one-of-a-kind voice.
Our thoughts go out to Flint's loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
