Forget the controversy over who got her pregnant and under what sort of circumstances she conceived a child.
The important thing is this:
Keshia Knight Pulliam has given birth! She's now a first-time mother! Hooray!
The actress - forever best known for her eight-season run as youngest Huxtable child Rudy on The Cosby Show - has given birth to a daughter named Ella Grace.
She made the announcement herself yesterday on Instagram, sharing a photo of her child's legs and cute booties with the world.
“Ella Grace has arrived!!!” Pulliam captioned the picture, deciding not to reveal details such as when, exactly, Ella came into the world or what her measurements were at the time.
The 37-year old confirmed her pregnancy in July via Instagram.
But a joyous occasion quickly turned scandalous, as Pulliam’s husband of six months at the time, Ed Hartwell, quickly filed for divorce and even demanded a paternity test from the actress.
Hartwell, who played linebacker for the Falcons and who appeared a few times on The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2008, got engaged to Pulliam on New Year’s Eve.
But the couple ran into problems soon afterward.
Speaking to The New York Post about his divorce filing and bombshell paternity test demand, Hartwell explained last summer:
"She wanted a baby really fast, and what I was trying to explain to her was that - from my beliefs, from seeing other successful people - that when you first get married, especially since we didn’t have a long courtship, that we should actually focus on each other and not just have a baby.
"That’s something she really did want to do."
Hartwell went on to say the pair “moved too fast” in their relationship and that Pulliam disappeared for a few days after he confessed to still having feelings for his ex.
It was during these few days when Hartwell alleged Pulliam may have gotten impregnated by another man.
"I can say she’s stayed out, she’s not came home, she’s went out-of-town … for three days, I don’t know what’s going on. I can say that," he said in July, adding:
"I can’t say she was unfaithful. I can say she wanted to get in vitro, I can say she wanted to do some things to make sure she got pregnant. I just want to make sure it is mine."
As far as we know, no paternity test was ever granted.
We think Hartwell has accepted responsibility for the child at this point.
But the couple is now divorced and Pulliam has accused Hartwell of being the one who cheated on her during their marriage and things are clearly very ugly.
A few days at this dram went viral, however, former child star vowed to remain focused on the future; specifically, the life growing inside of her.
"I always say that my plan "B" has always been God's plan "A"... Embracing the journey & eternally grateful for the abundance of blessings," she wrote on Instagram a few months ago.
“Despite what’s been publicized, there’s always funny, there’s always love, there’s always laughter, no matter what,” Pulliam added on her Play.it podcast Kandidly Keshia shortly after news of the split broke.
We send Pulliam our very best wishes for a happy, healthy baby.
And we hope this baby has two parents in the picture to help raise her, no matter what those parents think of each other.
