As you've no doubt heard by now, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt yesterday after 2 years of marriage and more than a decade together as a couple.
Countless rumors about the cause of the split have circulated throughout the celebrity gossip community, but the one that quickly emerged as the frontrunner involved allegations about Pitt's drug use.
Sources claimed that in recent years, the actor has fallen back into the habit of regularly drinking and smoking pot after promising Jolie (and repeatedly telling fans) that he would sober up for the sake of his kids.
Apparently, things came to a head back in 2014, when the couple was filming By the Sea together, just a few months after they walked down the aisle.
In addition to co-starring with her husband, Jolie also wrote and directed the project, and insiders on set say she was mortified when her husband would show up late and hungover to shoot his scenes.
To make matters worse, some of the eldest of the six Jolie-Pitt kids came to visit the set, and Jolie reportedly felt that they aware that something was wrong with their father.
Jolie is nothing if not a devoted mother, so perhaps it should come as no surprise that the well-being of her kids was her primary motivation for filing divorce papers.
Now, TMZ is reporting that Jolie will seek primary physical custody of all six children.
Not surprisingly, Brad is having none of that.
Sources close to the situation tell the site that Brad has made it clear he intends to fight hard for joint physical custody of the kids.
"There's no chance that's going to happen," said a Pitt source when asked about Angelina becoming the primary guardian.
The insider adds that Brad has no intention of preventing Angelina from peacefully co-parenting (as she seems to be doing to him), but he also won't roll over and let her take primary custody.
Pitt's camp continues to describe Jolie as "a great mother."
In contrast, she's reportedly claiming that his drinking and drug use - combined with that she describes as his "anger problem" - create a hostile environment for their children.
This one could get a lot uglier before it gets better, folks.
As always, we'll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.
