At least one Pretty Little Liars mystery has finally been answered:
We now know when the Freeform drama will come to an end.
Following weeks of speculation and near-confirmation, we now have it on the ultimate authority:
Pretty Little Liars will conclude following Season 7.
The series will air 10 episodes in the spring of 2017 and then call it quits.
Creator Marlene King and stars Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse announced the news today on Facebook Live.
Said King in a lengthy statement:
“It’s been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years.
"We are a family and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on your audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change.
"I’m excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wolf dire that is our last ten episodes.”
Those who watch Pretty Little Liars online or follow the series closely should not be surprised by this announcement.
Earlier this summer, Lucy Hale dropped some pretty serious hints about the series coming to an end.
"We’ve been doing it for six years. I’ve literally spent my 20s on the show, and I think all good things must come to an end," she told James Corden during an appearance on The Late Late Show.
She added that she actually hopes the show concludes in "tragic" fashion."
King, meanwhile, told TV Line a year ago that she was excited for Season 7…
… but wasn’t certain about Season 8.
“We have enough story to take us to the end of Season 7, and we’re going to let the fans tell us if they’re ready to say goodbye to this world and these characters,” King said at the time.
We’ve been pretty clear ourselves that Pretty Little Liars ought to come to an end.
It’s nearly worn out its welcome already and it’s better to leave fans wanting more than to have fans pushing you out the door.
Here’s a rundown of reasons why we’re ready to say farewell:
The show’s summer finale will air tomorrow night at 8/7c.
It promises to shake things up like via the following storylines:
1. Unveiling the identity of Mary Drake’s secret baby.
2. Killing a significant character.
3. Revealing that someone might be pregnant.
Whoa there! Who do you think the final point applies to?
And who may sign off about a year before the show says goodbye?
