Last week, we reported that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner attended a counseling session together as part of an apparent last-ditch effort to save their marriage.

Shortly thereafter, we learned that the attempted reconciliation quickly deteriorated into a bickering match, and Ben and Jen gave up on counseling after just one session.

Naturally, it was widely assumed that the failed sit-down was the nail in the coffin of Bennifer 2.0, but now, People magazine (one of the more reliable sources on the Ben-Jen split) is claiming that the actors remain committed to making their marriage work.

“They had to take a step away from each other at first and now they are coming back together and you have to find your footing first and then move forward,” a source tells the magazine.

“His family is all he cares about. This is what makes him happy and it makes sense that he looks happier. He enjoys the time with his family and that includes Jen. They are still working hard at this.

“It’s still really hard and every day Ben’s learning new positive ways to cope and that goes on both sides. He’s just focused on his family.”

Over the weekend, Affleck went to church with Garner and the kids, and then the whole family hit up a local farmer’s market.

If these two aren’t trying to make it work, they’re sending one hell of a mixed message to their children!
