Screech is headed to the slammer!
Back in December, Dustin Diamond was arrested after stabbing a man in a bar fight.
Diamond confessed to the stabbing, but claimed he was acting in self-defense and told a bizarre story about the victim’s refusal to participate in a game involving a bottle of Smirnoff Ice.
Basically, Diamond and his lawyer attempted to portray the whole incident as a wacky misunderstanding worthy of Samuel Powers himself.
The judge wasn’t having it, however, and handed out a harsh penalty worthy of Mr. Belding.
Diamond was sentenced today to 120 days in jail (which he’ll serve in two 60-day stints) and 15 months probation. He’s also been ordered to pay more than $1,000, which is probably a lot of money to Diamond these days.
Sources say Diamond appeared to be on the verge of tears as he left the courtroom without commenting to the press.
Diamond’s lawyers maintain that he took out the knife in order to ward off an unruly crowd and to protect himself and his girlfriend.
Diamond is expected to appeal the charges before he begins serving the first part of his sentence.
Hopefully, if he does have to do time, Dustin will at least be permitted to bring his robot pal Kevin along for companionship.
