Did Julie Plec just reveal how The Vampire Diaries will write out Elena Gilbert?
Fans of this CW series, of course, were taken by huge surprise a couple weeks ago when Nina Dobrev announced her impending departure.
She will say goodbye to the show that made her famous at the conclusion of The Vampire Diaries Season 6.
Will her character of Elena be killed off? It now seems unlikely, based on our speculation of Plec's latest tease, that is.
"The season ends with a flash forward," Plec previewed to EW, not revealing the focus of said flash forward or the time that will be jumped.
But considering the ongoing storyline of The Cure and of Elena's desire to have kids and of Damon's decision of whether or not to reveal this is actually a possibility for his girlfriend...
... we feel comfortable in making the assumption that Elena will take The Cure; she will become human once again; she will leave Mystic Falls; and we'll end the season by flashing forward to her happy, non-blood sucking life.
What do you think, fans? Is this how Elena ought to leave?
Will you watch The Vampire Diaries online next year after Dobrev bids farewell? Or can you not possibly imagine a series in which her heroine is not at the center?
