It looks like rumors of Jamie Dornan leaving Fifty Shades of Grey are untrue. He isn't walking away from the franchise, because there is no sequel ... yet.
The actor's rep told E! that he hasn't left anything, and that "All press reports are pure conjecture as the studio has not committed to a sequel as yet."
It's true that the franchise, which has done great at the box office in spite of horrendous reviews, is in a state of creative flux going forward.
The author of the book, E.L. James wants more power over the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker.
Also, Dornan's wife refuses to watch the movie, because the heavy BDSM nature makes her uncomfortable.
It's going to be tricky if Jamie does want to jump ship. Millions have gotten on twitter to protest him leaving the franchise.
More to the point, both Dornan and his co-star Dakota Johnson are still under contract with Universal to play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively.
Getting out of one of those big movie contracts is just about impossible, unless one doesn't mind being sued back to the stone-age.
Dornan's rep said the studio has yet to green light the sequel, which probably just means they're just looking for the right people to come in and replace the writer and director.
It DOESN'T mean the sequel is going to be canceled, especially since it's earned almost half a billion dollars at the box office.
So let's see what magic Mr. Dornan can wield in the meantime.
