First the bad news: The Game of Thrones season 5 premiere is still almost three months away.

Now the good news: This offseason continues to be rich as Casterly Rock with casting news, compelling teasers, and some behind-the-scenes looks that remind us of just what a staggering feat each season of GoT really is.

Thrones has long been the only HBO show whose post-episode making-of segments have actually been worth watching (although the Girls featurettes offer some interesting tips on genital camouflage) but now we’re getting a full half hour look at the massive effort that’s gone into producing the fifth season of the network’s most popular series:

The (hopefully spoiler-free) half-hour special entitled Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life will air February 8 at 7:30.

According to producers, it will document one day of production on three different GoT sets in three different countries.

Crews in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Sevilla and Osuna Spain will share not only the technical details of how to make a CG dragon take flight, but also the emotions that come with being involved in a series that inspires obsessive devotion.

We know, we know – it’s not quite as exciting as the prospect of finding out what the hell’s gonna happen to Tyrion, and HBO created some sky-high expectations by keeping the nature of this special under wraps for so long, but at this point, we’re as captive as Theon in the DreadFort, and we’ll take whatever crumbs we can get.
