Nick Cannon and Amanda Bynes have been friends since they both got their start on Nickelodeon in the late 90s.
Cannon defended Bynes during her first meltdown in the summer of 2013, and now he’s speaking out for the troubled actress once again, urging news outlets and social media users to stop making light of her condition.
“Just because it’s someone that is a public figure we feel like it’s fun,” Cannon said in a recent interview. “But no, this is someone who needs help…and she was getting help. And I’m pretty sure she’ll continue to get help again.”

Bynes was arrested for DUI on September 29, and her severe mental instability has become increasingly apparent in the nearly two weeks since.
Just yesterday, Bynes was caught shoplifting twice in New York City. Prior to that, she gave a bizarre, rambling interview in which she stated that she believes she has a microchip in her head which allows others to read her thoughts.
Needless, to say Bynes has been exhibiting some highly unusual behavior, and family and friends are deeply concerned.
Cannon went on to say that Bynes reached out to him via text “just a few weeks ago” and they discussed her worsening “condition.”
“People started to make fun of her and people started to think it was entertaining to make jokes,” Cannon said. “My heart goes out to her. I pray for her daily.”
Sources say Bynes’ mother will make an emergency trip to NYC within the next few days in hopes of convincing her daughter to seek help.
