Marvel just blew the lid off the movie world.

The studio held a special event today for select members of the media, announcing its next phase of blockbusters and superheroes, starting with this jaw-dropper:

Chadwick Boseman will star as Black Panther in a film scheduled for a 2017 release.

The actor (who portrayed Jackie Robinson in 42) appear on stage alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. immediately after the announcement was made.

Among the other major announcements dropped by Marvel:

 
  • Captain American 3 will be titled “Civil War” and will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
  • Doctor Strange will be released on November 6, 2016.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is coming on May 5, 2017.
  • Kevin Feige was on hand to unveil the title of “Thor: Ragnarok” (to be released on July 28, 2018).
  • The Avengers 3 will be subtitled “Infinity War” and split into two part; the first will be released on May 4, 2018 and the second in 2019.
  • Captain Marvel is coming on July 6, 2018. This movie will mark the first-ever female superhero lead in Marvel history.
  • Inhumans will be made into a film and released on November 2, 2018.
