Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka tied the knot Saturday. The Tony winner, 41, and his longtime partner, 39, have been together for over a decade.
Harris’ rep confirmed the happy event on Monday, saying in a statement:
“We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family.”
Neil then Tweeted out his own message: “Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband'”
As in Neil and David. Clever! The parents to twins Gideon and Harper exchanged vows with How I Met Your Mother producer and director Pam Fryman officiating.
Elton John performed at the reception, too. Not a terrible wedding singer.
The couple announced their engagement via Twitter in June 2011 after passage of the Marriage Equality Act in New York State, where they reside.
Harris then revealed that they actually got engaged five years earlier.
Neil also said last year that Burtka, who is a chef, actor and sometime E! correspondent, would eventually get married … they just didn’t know when.
“Certainly, we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well being, so I’m sure it will be inevitable, and awesome!” he said.
The handsome couple and their twin son and daughter, who turn four years old October 15, were recently reported to have called it quits by one tabloid.
So much for that. Congratulations to the duo and their entire family!
