A 39-year-old firing-range instructor died this week after being accidentally shot in the head by a young girl he was training to shoot an Uzi, according to reports.
The girl who fired the weapon in question is just nine years old.
Charles Vacca of Lake Havasu City was an instructor at a firing range in White Hills, Ariz., about 60 miles from Las Vegas. He had been teach the youth.
Vacca was showing her how to use automatic Uzi when the accident happened. The girl pulled the trigger and the gun’s recoil sent it over her head.
Vacca was standing next to her when he was hit. He was airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas, where he died around 9 p.m., 11 hours after the shooting.
The girl’s parents were with her at the time of the shooting at the range, which advertises machine guns, military-style bunkers, and specialty weapons.
The firing range’s owner has not commented on the tragedy.
