In a rampage police are describing as “premeditated mass murder,” seven people were killed last night when a young man opened fire from a slow-moving vehicle in Isla Vista near the University of California-Santa Barbara.
Seven others are being treated for injuries at a local hospital.
Among those dead is the suspected shooter, a 22-year old named Elliot Rodger.
According to Santa Barbara County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kelly Hoover, authorities have "obtained and [are] currently analyzing written and video evidence" from Rodger that suggests this horror had been planned as an act of revenge.
The video in question is titled "Retribution" and it was posted by Rodger hours before his alleged actions. The clip describes Rodger’s anger over girls not finding him attractive and how he plans to make everyone pay.
It’s frightening, disturbing stuff:
Rodger is the son of Peter Rodger, the second unit director of the The Hunger Games.
He died at the scene of a gunshot to the head, although it remains unclear whether or not the wound was self-inflicted.
