For the three remaining Dancing With the Stars competitors, it all came down to one night. One final Dancing With the Stars results show, for all the marbles.

With the guts, the glitter and the glory on the line, and with James Maslow ousted Monday, only Meryl Davis, Amy Purdy and Candace Cameron Bure remained.

Candace came in as the big underdog, but with huge fan support, with Amy as the dark horse candidate to upend Meryl, the odds-on favorite to win.

So how did the Dancing With the Stars results shake out? Would Davis give Maksim Chmerkovskiy is first title in 14 tries, or would there be a surprise?

Let’s find out who hoisted the Mirror Ball in Season 18 …

For their last routine, Amy and Derek were told to get in touch with their inner mad scientist and combine an Argentine tango with a cha-cha. They scored 30/30.

Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas, for a Frankenstein’s monster of a dance, had to blend a quickstep and a samba. It went fairly well, earning 27/30.

Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy had to produce the combination of a Foxtrot with a cha-cha, but came through with flying colors, tallying 30/30

Then at long, long last it was time for the results:

In third place: Candace and Mark.

In second: Amy and Derek!

Meryl and Maks win!!

While Meryl Davis is the celebrity winner, the victory is Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s as much as hers, having gone at it for 14 seasons before this triumph.

Was Dancing with the Stars rigged to make its biggest pro star happy? The cynics will wonder, but Maks had a look of pure joy on his face, and that was cool.

What do you think? Did they deserve it? Or would Amy and Derek or Candace and Mark have been better champions in this 18th season? Discuss!
