Got milk? More specifically, got breast milk?
Produced on a diet of strict vegan recipes?
If so, then Alicia Silverstone wants you!
The actress has launched the Kind Mama Milk Share, which aims to pair moms in search of nutrient-packed breast milk with earthy, lactating moms who have a healthy supply to share.
Silverstone, 36, said in her announcement: “If you have milk to share – post it! If you are in need of milk – post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!”
“Because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help those who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives.”
Silverstone wrote that she was inspired to start the program after a friend contacted her and expressed frustration that she could not find adequately vetted breast milk.
Breast-reduction surgery negatively affected her own supply, Alicia said.
“She tried reaching out in her community for donor milk, but it was almost impossible to figure out what kind of lifestyle choices the donors had made.”
“And after all that hard work keeping herself vibrant and healthy, she felt she had a right to demand better for her baby,” Silverstone wrote.
Although many experts say breast-milk sharing is perfectly fine, some warn that breast milk on such exchanges is untested and could potentially contain viruses.
This isn’t the first time Silverstone has advocated unconventional parenting.
Back in 2012, the actress stirred controversy for feeding her then 10-month-old son, Bear Blu, with food chewed straight from her mouth to his.
As for her new idea, would you use a breast-milk sharing exchange?
