The Tim Tebow era is over in New York.
Following a tumultuous season that saw him make far more noise off the field than on, this former Heisman Trophy winner has been released by the Jets.
"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," coach Rex Ryan said. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped."
"Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."
The Jets took Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL Draft Friday, clearing the way for some kind of quarterback move.
Tebow finished the 2012 campaign with eight pass attempts, six completions, 32 rushes for 102 yards and zero touchdowns.
But it will most definitely not be as a member of the Jets, an organization in complete disarray heading into the 2013 season. And for that, Tebow should truly give thanks.
He really may be blessed after all.
