Selena Gomez has received quite the honor from Glamour.
In its December issue, the magazine names this teenage singer its Woman of the Year!
“Woman of the Year – I didn’t even know I was a woman!” Gomez tells the publication in response. “I’m very honored… and it’s a very, very big deal to me. I’m going to hold it close to my heart.”
Gomez was recognized by Glamour partly for her career, but also because she is the youngest UNICEF ambassador of all-time. She is also part of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which creates programs for pediatric hospitals for severely injured kids.
Says Taylor Swift of her pal:
“She’s giving back to people who need help, because of her own life experience. She’s the exception to so many rules.”
But of course no article about Selena could be written without mentioning Justin Bieber. Does she understand some of the negative reaction from his fans? Absolutely.
“I adore his fans. I would never, ever want to disrespect them,” Gomez says. “You know, I get it: I was obsessed with Jesse McCartney growing up! He was my world. My high school crush. So I respect it, and if anything, I admire it.”
