Former U.S. President George H. W. Bush is being treated for bronchitis in hospital in Houston
Bush, 88, has been there for six days with a “lingering cough”, spokesman Jim McGrath said.
His condition is not life-threatening and the former president is expected to be discharged soon.
His chief of staff, Jean Becker, said Bush was admitted to Houston’s Methodist Hospital on Friday, after several visits in recent weeks, the Houston Chronicle said.
Becker added that there were concerns Bush’s condition might develop into pneumonia and news of his treatment had not been made public “out of respect.”
His son, former President George W. Bush, visited Sunday with wife Laura.
Bush, the oldest living former president and a World War II veteran, served one term in the White House and the previous two terms as Ronald Reagan’s V.P.
We wish him a fast and full recovery.
