Dancing with the Stars Recap: Evan Lysacek Sets the Gold Standard

by at . Comments

Evan Lysacek is not interested in silver medals.

Having already conquered the Winter Olympics in figure skating, the 24-year-old is looking to pair his gold medal with a silver Dancing with the Stars disco ball.

If last night is any indication, he's the man to beat. He and Anna Trebunskaya bested the field by a considerable margin and got a standing O for the quickstep.

Also cementing their status as contenders this season were Nicole Scherzinger, the first two weeks' top scorer, and Erin Andrews, who showed grace and poise.

Despite threats from a crazy stalker, Erin is no quitter, and she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy tied Nicole and Derek Hough for Monday's #2 scores.

At the bottom of the heap were Buzz Aldrin, predictably, and Kate Gosselin, who didn't exactly make Tony Dovolani look like Babe Ruth with his predictions.

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya stood (and sat) alone.

Here's a tiered breakdown of last night's Dancing with the Stars scores. Note the logjam of vulnerable couples in between the top three and the bottom two ...

The cream of the crop

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya (Quickstep): 9, 8, 9. Total: 26.

The contenders

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Waltz): 8, 7, 8. Total: 23.

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough (Quickstep): 8, 6, 9. Total: 23.

The pack

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower (Quickstep): 7, 7, 7. Total: 21.

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel (Waltz): 7, 7, 7. Total: 21.

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood (Paso Doble): 7, 7, 7. Total: 21.

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke (Paso Doble): 7, 6, 7. Total: 20.

Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinksa (Quickstep): 7, 6, 7. Total: 20.

Need fans to rescue them

Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani (Paso Doble): 5, 5, 5. Total: 15.

Buzz Aldrin and Ashly Costa (Waltz): 5, 4, 4. Total: 13.

Obviously, either Kate or Buzz should go home based on those scores, but the same was true last week and voters ended up eliminating Shannen Doherty, not even the middle-of-the-pack person we thought was most vulnerable (Aiden Turner).

Turner and Pamela Anderson, who narrowly escaped last week, could be in trouble tonight if people bail out Kate and Buzz. The rest are probably safe. Probably.

Dancing with the Stars Quotes

We should have started dancing with one arm waaay before.

Cristian de la Fuente [following his injury, trip to the hospital and subsequent stellar performance]

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
