New York Governor Eliot Spitzer isn’t getting off easy with celebrity constituents. Which is not surprising when you bang hookers, really.

“A f*%&ing embarrassment,” said actress Julianne Moore, once a huge fan of the Democratic governor and former attorney general.

“I’m really pissed. I honestly don’t care where or how people have sex, or with whom, but prostitution is illegal. For someone who’s got such a reputation for having a real attitude towards crime, you have to walk the walk. I’m sorry.”

Spitzer’s involvement with a prostitute named Kristen came to light after a federal investigation busted the high-priced call-girl ring.

Many speculate that troubled Eliot Sptizer will resign the office of New York Governor today. Julianne Moore and other New Yorkers think it’s probably best.

Meanwhile, Spitzer has been taking a pounding on the talk-show circuit …

  • Stephen Colbert remained deadpan on the Colbert Report, saying of Spitzer, “I sat next to the guy three times and I didn’t pick up on any of this, and I usually have excellent whore-dar.”
  • “They’re talking about impeaching Eliot Spitzer if he doesn’t step down,” said David Letterman, “and I’m thinking, ‘Whoa, a Democrat being impeached for extramarital sex. Well, happy days are here again!’ “
  • Spitzer was known as “Client No. 9” in the sting operation, prompting Conan O’Brien to joke on his late night talk show that “Not surprisingly, clients 1 through 8 were Charlie Sheen.”
  • The View co-host Joy Behar opined, “Aren’t you sick of men? Viagra is destroying our government.”
