Anthony Cumia, Opie & Anthony Co-Host, Fired Over "Racially-Charged" Twitter Remarks

Anthony Cumia, the co-host of popular SirusXM radio show Opie & Anthony, was fired late Thursday for what the company deemed "racially-charged" remarks on Twitter.

The controversy began earlier in the week when Cumia Tweeted responses to an incident in Times Square.

He wrote that a black woman was angry he had a taken photos of her, referring to Cumia as a “white motherf-cker” and punching him more than once.

In subsequent Tweets about the confrontation, Cumia described this woman "pig face worthless" and also used some VERY hard language against women.

"This was an animal. I shoulda smashed it's face," he wrote.

He also wrote that he hoped the lady - who he referred to as a “c--t” and a “savage” in other messages - would get shot.

In its statement Friday, SiriusXM explained its decision to let Cumia go via the following statement:

"Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents."

In response, Cumia proved to be the latest person who doesn't comprehend the First Amendment.

"Sirius decided to cave and fire me," he Tweeted yesterday. Welcome to bizarre world. Fired for s - - - that wasn't even on the air & wasn't illegal."

Yes. But you represent a company, which is well within its rights to make a decision it believes to be in the company's best interests. This isn't "bizarre." This is the way the business world has been run since the time of cavemen.

You don't need to break the law to be fired. Sheesh.

I am more concerned about the violence expressed in his comments than anything racial. He reacted in an unprofessional manner.

.......this racist, good for him!!

Sacha-nikoll-laine

Why was he taking pictures of her in the first place? He deserves being punched in the face.

I still don't see how it was "racially charged" as is reported. Was it the word 'Savage' or 'pig face?' Evidently somebody needs a dictionary. The only racial reference I saw came from the woman. No, what makes my blood boil is the last paragraph of the story: "Yes. But you represent a company, which is well within its rights to make a decision it believes to be in the company's best interests. This isn't "bizarre." This is the way the business world has been run since the time of cavemen.
You don't need to break the law to be fired. Sheesh." Why in the world would you direct any words to the subject of the story? Do you pig-faced savages at The Hollywood Gossip have that much of an ego that you think he's hanging on to YOUR every word? I'm not sure why everybody wants to be my mother these days, but you sure look damn foolish doing it.

He told the truth and got fired. if you think his remarks are "racist" watch this link of a kid doing a social experiment with a camera phone and the same thing happens to him time and time and time again. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i...

@ kevin norris Why didn't this kid position his phone opposite some white people in the same fashion. Perhaps you elected not to notice that all of the other subjects were black. If he wanted to test the perceptions of all people, he should have directed his cameraphone at people of all races. Perhaps he did and elected to edit out the responses of other races. The same thing did not happen to him every time. Not everyone responded in a violent or physically threatening fashion. The only conclusion I drew from this was that people react differently to the perception that their picture is being taken. Others may see it differently through the filter of race.
