Every season, The Bachelorette spoilers come out before the season even airs. Nothing like the tragedy that unfolded this year has even occurred before, though.
Fans were both stunned and saddened in April at news that contestant Eric Hill died suddenly after a paragliding accident, not long after his stint on the show ended.
The late 30-year-old clearly made a lasting impression on people.
Eric Hill had gone on the first one-on-one date of the season with Andi Dorfman. While he was clearly eliminated at some point, he and The Bachelorette hit it off.
What will his death would mean for the show going forward?
The Bachelorette producers were still taping Season 10, featuring the now deceased Eric Hill. Host Chris Harrison stated the obvious when breaking his silence Friday.
Harrison told People, “It’s just a horrible, horrible thing."
"He was taken away too young. It’s something we’ve never dealt with on the show. It didn’t only affect our cast, but also our crew who worked closely with him.”
He says everyone needed time to mourn Hill's passing and reflect on what happened. A month later, Harrison says producers are still "not 100 percent sure" what to do.
However, "I feel like every decision we make will be out of respect."
Andi Dorfman's season begins Monday, May 19, with the backdrop of this tragedy barely in the rear view mirror. How will it end? Who will she pick?
Given what happened to Eric, that's a secondary concern now.
This is the first time a Bachelor or Bachelorette contestant has died during the show; The Bachelor star Gia Allemand died in August in an apparent suicide.
