Jamie Dornan is reportedly emerging as the frontrunner to take over the role of Christian Grey from Charlie Hunnam in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that the Northern Ireland native has risen to the top of the list, with fellow Briton Christian Cooke also in the running.
Upon the abrupt and surprising exit by the Sons Of Anarchy star last weekend, Dornan quickly emerged as a contender, having been one all along.
He and Cooke were considered along with Hunnam and Alexander Skarksgard, giving the studio's image of Christian a distinctly European flavor.
"Both actors came close to capturing the part the first time around but lost to Hunnam because the Sons of Anarchy star is a bigger name," says THR.
That same factor may have led to Hunnam's exit. He's big enough that he can get work, and doesn't want to be typecast in a role such as this.
For someone like Jamie Dornan, it might be just what his career needs.
Seduction is nothing new for the actor, either. He first caught movie lovers' attention as he seduced Kirsten Dunst in their movie Marie Antoinette.
The former model also appeared on Once Upon A Time as The Huntsman, and later on U.K. detective series The Fall. Did we mention he models?
Dornan is just under the radar enough these days that starring in a film like Fifty Shades of Grey would help raise his profile. As for fans' perception?
He's not Ian Somerhalder. This we know. But was a relative unknown who could become Christian in their minds? He might be just what the doctor ordered.
Despite the casting issue, the studio reportedly stands by its August 1, 2014 release date, and by Dakota Johnson in the role of Anastasia Steele.
What do you think, THGers? Would he make a good Christian Grey?
