Tommy Chong is defending daughter Rae Dawn Chong following her controversial comments about Oprah Winfrey during an interview last week.
Rae Dawn mused that O is an ugly, brown-nosing "biotch" who would have been a "field n--ger" back in the day ... not the more prized "house n--ger."
Tommy says she's just being honest, because that's just how it was:
"She said back in the day Oprah would be working in the field because shes not that beautiful ... whereas if you're beautiful, you're part of the master's bedroom."
"Knowing Oprah, she would probably read [Rae's comments] and just chuckle and probably agree with Rae Dawn ... she probably would be working in the field."
Somehow we're guessing her co-star in The Color Purple might see it differently, but that's just us. At least Rae Dawn didn't praise her tig ol' bitties.
Tommy adds that he doesn't think Oprah would have stayed in the field forever, since she would have used her "charm and intelligence" to become a "house lady."
That also falls in line with Rae Dawn Chong's comments ... sort of.
Rae Dawn issued an apology (more like a confusing statement) after her comments went viral, explaining that she meant this as a compliment somehow.
Don't ask us how. But that's how she tried to explain it away.
