Tupac Shakur will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame along with various others, the Walk of Fame Committee confirmed over the weekend.
Shakur, also known to the world as 2Pac, is the fourth representative of the rap genre to be given the honor, nearly 17 years after his death.
2Pac proved himself an accomplished hip-hop artist, poet, activist and actor, and his short but illustrious career earned him this prestigious honor.
The beloved rapper has become something of a legend, or even a martyr, in death. Statues in Georgia and Germany have been erected in his honor.
A Tupac hologram even performed at Coachella in 2012.
In effort to preserve his legacy, 2Pac's mother, Afeni Shakur, founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, and she's not the only one to pay homage.
Pac's impact has been the subject of academic lectures at UC-Berkeley, Harvard University, SUNY-Buffalo, Northeastern University and beyond.
Other 2014 Walk of Fame star recipients:
- Katy Perry
- Rick Springfield
- Orlando Bloom
- Jennifer Lopez
- Matthew McConaughey
- Phil Hartman (posthumous)
