Kate Middleton: PREGNANT!!!

by at . Comments

Kate Middleton is pregnant. For reals. The royal family confirmed the news today!

Prince William and his wife are expecting their first child, according to the palace:

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby."

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."

"As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."

The Duchess was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital with hyperemesis gravidarum, an acute morning sickness which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients.

The pregnancy announcement comes after months of speculation. About 18 months, to be exact. Ever since they married in April 2011, the rumors have flown.

The palace, which rarely comments on gossip, took the unusual step of saying, more than once, "We would be the ones to make the announcement, not Hollywood."

Tabloids began snapping close-ups of Kate Middleton's stomach for any sign of a baby bump, and had a field day when she declined peanuts and champagne.

Her old friend Jessica Hay took it upon herself to declare Kate Middleton pregnant this month, telling both Life & Style and Australia's New Idea that it was a done deal.

Who knows if she really knew or just guessed correctly.

Everything from Kate's new hairstyle to her recent clothing choices (above) have been critiqued of late, leading many to believe she really was pregnant this time.

While remaining intensely private people, the couple never required much prodding when it came to the subject of family and wanting to start one before long.

"It is quite strange reading about it, but I try not to let it bother me," Prince William said in an interview with ABC News in May. "I'm just very keen to have a family."

"Both Catherine and I are looking forward to having a family in the future."

Due to a dramatic change in the rules of succession, the royal couple's first-born will be the heir to the throne, regardless of the baby's gender, for the first time.

Royal babies have typically been born within one year of marriage; Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William just 11 months after her wedding.

Going back one more generation, Queen Elizabeth II gave birth to Prince Charles, William's father, six days before her first wedding anniversary.

Assuming Kate is past 12 weeks, she should be due in early summer 2013, shortly after her two-year anniversary. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess!

btw, by mnarring a prince she becomes royalty. you people have no idea about european history. i don't think they taught it at your school. it is wonderful that they can carry on the line. yeah, people have kids every day, but she will be a queen you ding dongs. carry on "rule britania." delightful to watch and be a part of history.

congratulations to kate and prince william !!.I am sure they will be wonderful parents and I am sure the whole world shares in their joy.

Come ON people!! Its a friggin BABY. Babies are delivered every day (a few hundred times a day) all around the world! You do not know this girl. Yes its nice shes pregnant.. but its no different than any other person getting pregnant. And being in the royal family now? Yeah, shes going to go through hell with that child. Do you know how many people are going to tell her how to raise it(like maybe the queen?)? Shes going to have paparazzi all over her all the time. Every single parenting move she makes will be watched and critiqued. Now, their marriage really will be tested. I hope it was fun while it lasted.

Woopdi Do. I've had 2 children. Women give birth every day. I also had that type of morning sickness and I wasnt hospitalized. Pfft. Think she cant handle it? She will be fine. They should not have told the world about it this early on though. She could have a miscarriage at any point and what would they do then? Its always wise to wait until after the 3-5 month period where miscarriages are the most prevalent. Good luck to her but I really dont care that shes pregnant. Women get pregnant every day and the world doesnt celebrate their pregnancies. She married a prince. Shes not royalty by birth and shes hardly royalty by marriage. Who gives a shiz what goes on in their lives.

@ mmhmm

You sound jealous!!

@ mmhmm

Obviously you since you had to comment on it

Am so blessed for them. Praying for a safe delivery of a healthy baby.

Couldn't be more thrilled for them. They are such an adorably cute, loving couple!!! They seem to have been able to live their own lives and keep up to their own pace as far as when they wanted to get pregnant. Koodos to them for taking time to spend together first. I can only imagine how happy Princess Di would be to know that she would be having her first grandchild to love. She will no doubt be the baby's guardian angel. So cool! Congrats to Wills and Kate!
